ESRC Impact Champion

Welcome! I am currently an ESRC Impact Champion on the Tackling Electoral Violence in Britain project at the University of Strathclyde, where I study how violence, intimidation, and abuse can affect elections and political life in Britain. Previously, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant for the Response to Violence Against Women Mayors in the United States project, funded by the Bloomberg Center at Harvard. Prior to this, I was a fixed-term Lecturer in Political Behaviour and Quantitative Methods in the Department of Government at the University of Essex (2022-2023) and a Pre-doctoral Research Assistant for the Representative Audit of Britain project at the University of Strathclyde (2020-2021).

My research focuses on political behaviour, elections, public opinion, representation, and comparative politics. I am particularly interested in how candidates and voters behave, how political careers develop, how political divisions grow, and how violence and harassment can shape participation in politics.

I completed my Ph.D. in Politics at the University of Strathclyde, supervised by Dr. Wolfgang Rüdig and Prof. Zoe Greene. My thesis focuses on the career structure of election candidates, addressing questions such as: Are young careerist politicians really out of touch with voters? How do distinct career types of politicians affect the level of congruence between parties and the electorate? My thesis comprises three research papers using comparative data mainly from the Comparative Candidates Survey (CCS) and the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES).

Methodologically, I employ quantitative methods to address my research questions, with expertise in Causal Inference, Multilevel Modelling, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), and Quantitative Text Analysis. I also specialize in MrP (Multilevel Regression with Poststratification), a method for generating public opinion estimates in small territories with limited demographic data.

My research work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as the European Journal of Political Research, Party Politics, European Political Science Review, and the Journal of Election, Public Opinion and Parties.
